Kizuna Bridge

Introduction

In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, there is a bridge built with the assistance of the Japanese government. The people of Cambodia are pleased with this bridge over the Mekong River, and it is called the "Kizuna Bridge" in Japanese.

From a practical standpoint, it also serves as a transportation artery connecting Cambodia's northeastern region, which is important as a production area for agricultural products, to the capital. I'm here. Cambodia Commercial Center also wants to work as a "bridge" connecting information, business activities and cultural activities between Japan and Cambodia.

Our center belongs to Kojima Holdings. In October 2014, Kojimagumi Co., Ltd., a core construction company, started a project to recruit and train Cambodian civil engineering and construction engineers.

  1. Support for acceptance of foreign personnel to Kojimagumi group companies or other companies
  2. Support for human resources after acceptance (language learning, share house introduction, life adjustment assistance)

Kojima-gumi's history of utilizing foreign human resources

KOJIMAGUMI (CAMBODIA) Co., Ltd., a local subsidiary in Cambodia, hired Cambodian engineers who graduated from university, and after conducting intensive training on the necessary specialized knowledge, they were assigned to the civil engineering and construction sites of the Kojimagumi headquarters in Japan. So far, we have hired 9 Cambodian human resources.

Furthermore, in February 2020, we acquired a license for fee-charging employment placement business and registration support organization, and we are assigning specific skilled overseas human resources to group companies and other companies. I would like to play the role of a "bridge" that connects people who want to build a career in Japan and Japanese companies that are looking for young and motivated people. What made you want to work in Japan?
What is the reason started to work in Japan?

Japan is one of the most developed countries in the world. All sectors of the country are modern and sustainable. I have learned and experienced time management and responsibility, communication and group work, strong spirit and challenge.

What is your current job?
What is your current work?

My role is construction site management and I need to connect with designers, material producers and subcontractors. To keep the job running smoothly and on schedule, field technicians need to think in detail and understand each part of the job, from the blueprints to the actual materials being installed on site. Each part of the sector is meticulously pre-determined to ensure everything follows the rules and design.

Where do you currently commute from?
Where are you currently living?

I currently live in a share house owned by Kojimagumi.

Please tell us about the difficulties you faced while working.
What was the challenging thing you have experienced in work?

The hardest part of my job up until now was the Hagizono land development construction site. Development work (area 8 ha = 80,000 m2) with a construction period of two and a half years requires all infrastructure work and road construction (structure removal work, block development work, rainwater and sewage pipe construction work, road construction work, park construction work, etc.) construction, storage capacity 2,700㎥, water supply and gas construction). My role is that of a builder, but I am responsible for process management, safety management, and quality control (confirmation of design details, on-site coordination, material procurement, construction review, and surveying arrangements). As for the construction work performed as an engineer, we are instructed to follow the planning/working drawing creation and PDCA (Plan planning, Do execution, Check evaluation, Action improvement).

When do you feel rewarding while working now?
When do you feel rewarding in work?
  1. When the project is completed and the customer is happy.
  2. When I was able to produce and finish a product at a good level that I have never done before.
  3. When you learn new technology from on-site work and master it.
Please give a message to foreigners who are thinking of working in Japan.
What would you advise to foreign people who want to work in Japan?

Japan's civil engineering technology is truly wonderful, and being able to work at the forefront is extremely valuable and rewarding. Among them, Kojimagumi is a locally-based company, and through various projects, you can feel that they are creating and supporting the livelihoods of local people. Little by little, I'm in a position to guide my juniors, so I'm looking forward to working with everyone who joins the company in the future.
